Allen1I had the pleasure of meeting Don Allen at the Rotary Club of Apple Valley where we were both Members. Chuck and I and Don have been friends for many years and what a delight it is to know Vicki – his wife of 2 years.

They LOVE to travel – no wait – the are obsessed with it!  They take long planned trips abroad and within the US and we all know the challenges of maintaining weight while traveling! But they have had amazing success and are maintaining it as they embark on another 6-month trip all over the US.

Below is Don’s thoughts about his weight loss journey – in his own amusing words and interesting style.  Many thanks to Don and Vicki for so openly sharing their lives with us.

PLANNED WEIGHT LOSS – by Don Allen

There are times when a person awakes and decides: “There is just toooooo much of me to love.. ACTIONS MUST BE TAKEN..Vicki and I took the actions.

I have been very familiar in the past with the Weight Loss Programs developed by Shaklee and I have used them and have shared them with many people. I must say I am biased toward the programs. There are many things about it that are superior.

Vicki’s past experience has been with the use of WEIGHT WATCHERS. She has had great success with it. However like both programs: UNLESS YOU FOLLOW THEM FOR YOUR LIFE TIME ….??? The result will be that you will gain the weight back.. and usually double.

In September 2013, Vicki and I sat down and made a firm decision.We had both kind of gotten out of hand and the mirrors we had were not big enough to allow us to see our reflections……

THERE WAS JUST TOO MUCH OF US TO LOVE!!

We learned long ago that BEFORE ENTERING UPON ANY MAJOR UNDERTAKING: YOU SHOULD INVOKE THE AID OF THE DEITY BY PRAYER. We did so.

We would both use the past experience we had learned, and with God’s Help, would not allow ourselves to fail. We would use the BEST of both weight loss programs. We both agreed that SHAKLEE is the leading Nutritional Company in the Country. I know what to take and to do. Vicki has been taking many of the Shaklee Supplements to great success. We decided to continue this supplement routine. We would also use the Shaklee Shakes and Food Bars. We made the decision and …

We Joined WEIGHT WATCHERS ONLINE.
This program allowed us to be our own advisors. We have learned the routine of both programs.. I know calories like the back of my hand. Vicki knew how to read AND UNDERSTAND FOOD LABELS and a mysterious method of COUNTING POINTS which I needed to learn and understand…we are applying them to our custom program.

Keep in mind WE WERE ON THE ROAD IN SEPTEMBER.

VICKI SIGNED UP ON THE WEIGHT WATCHERS ONLINE PROGRAM ON 11 SEPT. 2013 ..… I SIGNED UP A WEEK LATER ON 18 SEPT, 2013. KEEP IN MIND WE HAD ONLY BEEN MARRIED JUST OVER TWO YEARS: SO
WE ARE STILL RESPECTING EACH OTHERS PRIVACY. ( I AM SURE THAT WILL CHANGE AT SOME POINT IN OUR MARRIAGE.)

TO WIT: She would NOT share her weight with me, because she knew I would share it with the world in these epistles. She may well be right.. OH, WELL…. Onward……

I, on the other hand, do not mind sharing what I am doing….. I knew I was hitting a good solid FLAB of 265 pounds all of the time. Sometimes bumping a 270 range.. There was NO DOUBT there was just too much of me.

MY WEIGHT WHEN I SIGNED UP ON SEPTEMBER 18TH WAS AT 263 POUNDS, WEARING A SMILE AT 06:00 IN THE MORNING…..I ALSO TOOK MEASUREMENTS; NECK 20”; WAIST 43 1/2”; HIPS 47

Through the Years I have had great success in losing weight. I have lost 100’s of pounds!! As always IT IS NOT HOW MUCH YOU LOSE. IT IS HOW MUCH YOU CAN KEEP OFF AND FOR HOW LONG..

FACT: “FAT PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS INCLINED TO STAY FAT.”

DonAllen2-03-20-14I knew I could lose weight fast. I knew I had to keep the Shaklee Supplement Program constant. I knew the Shaklee 180 Food Supplement was a superior vitamin. I knew I had to get control of my Metabolism.. I knew the Shaklee 180 METABOLIC BOOST DIETARY SUPPLEMENT was the answer. I started these along with the other Shaklee Supplements we always take.. You should understand I have been taking Shaklee supplements for almost 25 years so I DO HAVE SOME MAJOR BIAS IN FAVOR OF SHAKLEE SUPPLEMENTS

The FACT is: I am 77 years old! My blood chemistry is perfect! I take NO PRESCRIPTION DRUGS OF ANY KIND……and now I have 50 + pounds off… which when the 4:1 ratio enters in action: removes 200 pounds of pressure from my badly worn joints. I no longer walk with a cane. I try to walk 1 OR 2 miles a day.

POINTS
I started following the suggested Point Range Data of the Weight Watcher Program and read their wonderful online data.. I started learning the point system and comparing the points to calories. I had a very steep learning curve to overcome.

Yes, it does require life changes.. and drink and food changes.. Everything is based ON THE FOOD LABEL. We used the provided Weight Watcher Bar Scanner to determine Points per Serving. We made great effort on what we were preparing, how we were serving it and how large our serving was…and YES, I did back away from many things

TO WIT: WINE, BEER, M&M NUTS, SNICKERS, DR PEPPER, CHIPS, HOT DOGS, HAMBURGERS, WHITE BREAD, PIZZA, CHEESE PRODUCTS.. FRIED FOOD OF ANY KIND, AND ALL JUNK FOOD. I DECLARED ALL OF THIS TO BE “THE DEVIL’S FOOD.”

This is NOT IN COMPLIANCE with Weight Watchers. They advocate it is OK to eat and drink this. YOU JUST HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF: “IS IT WORTH IT?” IF YES: THEN DO IT! AND COUNT & LOG THE POINTS.

WINE & BEER
Example: 5 oz of wine is 4 points.. I only had 39 points for the day. 4 points is over 10% .. (It is also only four swallows for me). Many times Vicki and I had a bottle per meal with me having 80% of it.. So who is kidding who?.. WINE IS THE DEVIL’S DRINK. Also beer: 12 oz of beer is 5 points. You always drink 2 beers at least; that would be 10 points.

A “LASTING” LIFE CHANGE IS REQUIRED: STARTING WITH PRAYER. However, if I want to use four of my points for a glass of wine at dinner, then I can. It is that simple.. JUST COUNT THE POINTS.. AND LOG THEM DOWN…..YOU MUST BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF.

WEIGHT — 265 – 208.5 = 56.5 POUNDS
NECK 20 – 17.5 = 2.5 INCHES ( YES, I HAVE NEW SHIRT SIZE: 17.5)
WAIST 43.5 – 36 = 7.5 INCHES (YES, I HAVE NEW PANTS SIZE: 38)
HIPS 47 – 41 = 6 INCHES (YES, I HAD A BIG BUTT!)
STRESS TEST FOR HEART = NORMAL (YES, I RAN ON A TREADMILL.)
BLOOD PRESSURE START AT 122/70 / I RAN UNTIL IT WAS 140/80… NOT BAD
BLOOD CHEMISTRY HAS ALL NUMBERS IN PROPER RANGE.
BMI (BODY MASS INDEX) START AT 30.62 WHICH WAS “OBESE”
PRESENT AT 26.31 WHICH IS “OVERWEIGHT”
MY BMI IS STILL HIGH! ???? I WOULD HAVE TO WEIGH LESS THAN 190
POUNDS TO HAVE A NORMAL BMI …
AT THIS TIME AND POINT, I CHOOSE TO IGNORE THE BMI…
I AM NOT SURE I WANT TO WEIGH LESS THAN 190 POUNDS???
(I NEED MORE PRAYER AND TIME TO THINK ABOUT THIS TARGET)

HER BMI IS IN “THE NORMAL RANGE.”

BONE DENSITY TEST = NORMAL
SHE TAKES: NO PRESCRIPTION DRUGS OF ANY KIND..
SHE TAKES: A FULL REGIMEN OF SHAKLEE AND OTHER FOOD SUPPLEMENTS
